Black Friday 2024 - how has it trended

Super interesting seeing the Google Trends for Black Friday 2024 when comparing by country... and it was a tale of two halves.

📈The chart shows the search interest by country in the lead up to Black Friday, and aligning each country to the index. (Eg the volume is much higher for US, but we're just matching the trendlines here).

A few big callouts for the selected countries OUTSIDE the US:
1️⃣ Search interest builds earlier than ever in the month.
2️⃣ A continuing emergence of 'Fake Friday'. Searches for "Is it Black Friday today" went through the roof.
3️⃣ A lower interest peak generally (also seen vs prior years).

Contrast this with US. Each year sees an almost identical trend, because of the significance Black Friday relative to Thanksgiving (prompting less confusion and less promotional activity in the lead up).

So if you're in US and selling internationally, or selling into US, bear in mind the different search dynamics of Black Friday when planning for 2025.
